UK parent guide
Compare tuition by what the fee actually provides.
An hourly figure can be useful, but only when the services are comparable. Teacher experience, group size, live teaching time, marking, preparation, reporting and the payment period all change what a family receives.
Start with live teaching time
Convert the advertised period into actual live hours. A monthly label may cover four weeks, a calendar month or a term; lessons may be 45, 60 or 90 minutes. Ask whether holidays, cancellations or missed sessions alter the total.
Then establish the teaching format
One-to-one, a group of six and a webinar of fifty are different services. Ask for the maximum class size, whether membership is stable and how the teacher checks individual work.
Understand what surrounds the lesson
Preparation, structured practice, teacher marking, progress evidence, parent communication and administration may be included, optional or absent. These affect both value and the likelihood that lessons connect into a coherent learning cycle.
- Practice and marking
- Progress reporting
- Parent contact
- Diagnostic and placement process
- Learning resources and access period
Kheya’s published UK calculation
Kheya’s founding UK programme is £149 per student for each four-week cycle. It includes twelve live hours of Mathematics, English, Biology or Chemistry teaching: two 90-minute lessons each week for four weeks. That is £12.42 per live teaching hour before accounting for structured practice, teacher marking and parent reporting.
- £149 per four weeks
- 12 live teaching hours
- Maximum six students
- One carefully selected career teacher
Price should follow fit
A low hourly rate is not good value when the teacher, specification or cohort is wrong. Equally, a premium rate should not be accepted without clear evidence of teacher suitability, class format, support and terms. Confirm these before paying.
